BLU-U® Blue Light Treatments for Moderate Acne

While there are several medications on the market to treat moderate acne, we offer a new treatment that doesn't reply upon medications. BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy utilizes a special blue light that can destroy the p. acnes bacteria that can grow in your skin.

The treatments occur once or twice a week for 15 minutes during each session and usually runs on this schedule for about five weeks. The treatment is simple as the patient merely sits with his/her face close to the light. Levulan Kerastick® Photodynamic Therapy System

We utilize the Levulan Kerastick® in our office to treat actinic keratoses (AKs). Caused by too much sun exposure, these coarse, scaly patches found on the skin can sometimes advance into various forms of skin cancer. Reports indicate that over 5 million Americans have AKs, and the American Cancer Society, The Skin Cancer Foundation and the American Academy of Dermatology all recommend that treatment be sought immediately for this condition.

This unique photodynamic therapy system is completed in two steps. First, we apply the Levulan® Kerastick® for Topical Solution, 20% to the AKs found on your skin. Making the AKs more light-sensitive, the solution prepares the lesions for the second step, performed 60 minutes later. We will expose the lesions to a special blue light, which will wipe out the AKs. Proven effective in clinical testing, the system is the only procedure that uses light to rid your skin of AKs.
